First Grade Fashion

// April 20th, 2009 // Uncategorized

I spent Friday in a 1st grade classroom in inner city Atlanta. I’ll put up a post about my experience later but one bizarre thing I noticed was the number of kids with mohawks and stars cut into or out of the shaved sides of their heads. When I asked my friend Kelley she said, “I have no idea. They all came back from spring break with mohawks and stars like a memo went out or something.”

After an extensive google search, this was the best explanation I can came up with.

Pictures: Game XXL Magazine May 2008

After being released from jail, The Game showed up with a mohawk and star tatoo. Could the stars in the hair be imitating the tatoo? He is a west coast rapper and the news is a little too old. The search continues…

Victory! Yung LA – a T.I. protege who rocks a mohawk with stars carved into the sides. Up and coming with Atlanta credibility. I think we have a winner. In case you are interested, Yung L.A. is part of the “futuristic movement” and talks about “black boy schwag, white boy tag” which I think means white brands, black style but you are welcome to investigate further. Kelley, can you confirm?

Yung L.A.

Yung L.A.

Mystery solved. You can even watch Yung L.A. at his barber shop getting his stars lined up.

And check out Yung L.A. his “Ain’t I” music video with T.I.
