Examen.me
// April 27th, 2009 // Faith, Life
I now recall the past day. I replay it back in my head like a video tape and examen my actions looking for all the areas where I lived out the life of Christ. I also look for areas where God is teaching me.
EXAMEN.ME is a tool to help direct Christians’ quiet times and allow them to focus on connecting with God rather than on figuring out “okay, what am I supposed to do know?” EXAMEN.ME provides you with scriptures and questions for the ancient spiritual practice of examen. There are number of different options that can lead you through scripture, prayer, a review of your day, etc. I chose Prayer of Examen today. Little did I know… Everything was going smoothly until I hit question 4 which you read above.
…and wow… I wasn’t sure how to answer that. I’m still not. It isn’t that I feel like my day was “bad”. I’m just not sure where it was “Christ-like”. Do I feel like I did good things today? Sure. Where do we even start being “Christ-like” in an office environment? What does that look like?
I wish I had more answers. I wish I had something insightful to say… but I just have questions and maybe that is the point. Maybe asking the right questions is the starting point. It is what examen is all about after all. Question #1 appears to be what does Christ-like even mean? I mean, it is easy when I’m feeding the poor, on a mission trip in the Dominican Republic, or mentoring my I Matter Too kids. I know who I am in Christ then. But what about Monday morning when I roll out of bed and into the office. What does it mean then? When I’m at work from 9-8 or 9-whenever?
As soon as I figure that out I can get around to the actual question of the examen, “In what areas was I Christ-like today?” and the more challenging question of “What areas should I have been Christ-like in today?”
What does Christ-like mean in your life?
