Prayer Request

// September 22nd, 2009 // 2 Comments » // I Matter Too

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday two of players have tryout with major league scouts. That is a game changing proposition for these kids lives. It is also a dangerous one. Going from having nothing, to being a professional baseball player and having your choice of just about anything you want isn’t an easy proposition. It comes with a lot of temptations. It comes with a lot of people who want something from you. You run the risk of becoming complacent and getting a big head and glorifying yourself rather than God. Pray God strengthens and protects these young men as chase their dream. Pray he gives them the strength to play their best and glorify him with the gifts he has given them. But also pray that he humbles them and reminds them to give Him thanks. Pray that they he teaches them that baseball will come and go and but that He will will always be there. Pray they know they can only play by the strength He has given them and that without Him it has no meaning. Pray that once they sign, he directs their steps and brings them closer to Him. Pray they remember where they came from and how they got where they are.

I really hope they sign but I hope more that we have prepared them and given them the perspective they need to to continue to grow as men and in Christ. And if they aren’t ready for that, I pray they stay with us just a little bit longer.

His will be done.

Amen

What is normal?

What is normal? Check out the newest post over on the I Matter Too blog. Here is a teaser:

When most people picture a “normal” family, they think of a mother, a father, and two or three children. Throw in a dog and house with a white picket fence, and you’ve got the American Dream. I’ve never known normal like this and neither do many people these days. – Annette Taylor

Best Music You've Never Heard

// April 8th, 2009 // 5 Comments » // Faith, I Matter Too, Service

Have a post up over on the I Matter Too blog asking for suggestions of the best Christian music artists we’ve never heard. Leave suggestions over there. Leave them over here. Leave them wherever you want. I can’t get the videos of personal favorite up on the I Matter Too blog, so I’ll post them here.

My personal favorite right now is Reach Records. Okay, Reach isn’t an artist but a group of artists who have started their own lable and accompanying ministry, Reach Life. We’ve all seen mainstream hiphop and rap artists write that one song where they give glory to God and then go back to singing songs about money, cars and women. Reach Records is legit. You won’t hear them mention their own names in songs. You will hear scripture. These guys aren’t just singing about God. They are really out there ministering and sharing the gospel. True GOSPEL RAP!

Why I 'I Matter Too'

// March 23rd, 2009 // No Comments » // I Matter Too, Service

logoHey yall,
My new post is up on the I Matter Too blog. I’m going to be doing some writing over there from time to time and when I do I will throw a link up over here. Looking forward to yall joining me over there. Here is a little sample:

It is because of the sense of purpose and meaning that He gives my life that I serve at I Matter Too. I want to share the love that affirms me, that tells me I matter too, with kids who don’t have the benefit of parents or knowledge of a savior that tells them, “Yes, you matter too.”

If you aren’t familiar with I Matter Too, it is a Christian non-profit that provides tutoring and mentoring services to kids in the foster care system. One of the reasons I choose to serve at I Matter Too that I didn’t mention in the post is that I am in awe of the anointing on I Matter Too’s founder, Stacia. When you see God working through an organization and a person like I see him working through I Matter Too and Stacia, you can’ help but want to be a part of it. So head over to the I Matter Too website, read the blog, read Stacia’s testimony, become a mentor, sponsor a child. Get involved! It is a great cause.
